TPP Work Groups

Provider Outreach

Provider/Facilities Outreach

The Provider Facilities Outreach work group seeks to increase the accurate placement/reading of TB skin test and reporting of TB reactors and converters by Santa Clara County (SCC) medical facilities and Medical Groups. Toward that end, the work group has developed a “train the trainer” project to train and certify participants in the accurate placement/reading of TB skin tests and trains more than 40 nurses annually.

By publishing a annually up-date and reminder about these regulations in a local communicable disease newsletter, this work group also ensure all hospital discharge and transfer requirements are met relative to TB patients.

Provider Cultural Competence Outreach

The Cultural Competence work group seeks to increase access to culturally competent TB-related services in Santa Clara County (SCC). The activities of this work group are currently on hold awaiting funding.

What Community Action is TPP taking with TB?

Schools Outreach

The Schools Outreach work group collaborates with Santa Clara County schools to increase awareness of TB transmission, cure and available resources among staff, students, and their families. Working with 8 of the 34 SCC school districts, more than 5400 TB educational brochures have been distributed to school staff since the work group was convened in 2000.

In an effort to get relevant TB information directly to students, this work group has distributed an innovative set of TB lesson plans, to 3 Teacher Credentialing Instructors. The plans have been distributed to 8 different credentialing classes. Eight teachers have incorporated the lesson plans into their classrooms.

Funding Outreach

The Funding Outreach work group seeks to secure appropriate levels of funding to maintain TB prevention and education. TPP Lead agencies are currently preparing a proposal for grant funding.

Community Outreach

The TPP Community Outreach work group will be developing a volunteer speaker’s bureau to help educate the community about tuberculosis.

Business Outreach

The Business Outreach work group will be developing strategies to collaborate with the business community to reach populations at risk for TB.
